Product Description
The SECO 17002082 is a solid carbide ball end mill from the STBN440 series, designed for both roughing and finishing operations in demanding metal-cutting applications. Built with four flutes and a variable helix geometry, it promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces chatter across a range of materials. The 3/8 inch mill diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 6 inch overall length, making it well suited for deep-cavity and extended-reach work. An AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection at the cutting edge. The Weldon flat shank ensures positive drive retention in compatible holders.
This end mill is intended for machining steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials in CNC milling applications. The extended reach and 3-5/8 inch neck length allow the tool to access deep pockets, slots, and contoured features that standard-length end mills cannot reach. It is center-cutting and right-hand cutting with a right-hand flute direction, so it can plunge directly into a workpiece. Typical installation scenarios include die and mold work, aerospace component machining, and general metalworking on vertical or horizontal machining centers.
Key Features
- Solid carbide construction for rigidity and long tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- AlTiN PVD coating provides oxidation resistance and extended performance at elevated cutting temperatures
- Variable helix geometry reduces harmonic vibration and chatter during aggressive cuts
- Extended reach design with 4-1/8 inch reach length and 3-5/8 inch neck length for deep-cavity access
- Center-cutting capable for direct plunge entry without pre-drilling
- Weldon flat shank for secure, positive drive in set-screw style toolholders
- Ball nose profile supports both roughing and finishing passes on contoured surfaces
Compatibility
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines that accept 3/8 inch Weldon flat shank toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys.
Installation Notes
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or removing the tool. Seat the Weldon flat fully into the toolholder bore and torque the set screw to the toolholder specification before use. Verify runout against the TIR maximum of 0.0005 inch after installation to confirm proper seating.
